Christopher C. Dinan

Christopher C. Dinan has tried matters to civil juries throughout Maine, including construction, motor vehicle, insurance coverage, and product liability cases. He has frequently argued cases before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, including significant tort and insurance coverage matters. The Maine Superior Courts have selected him to serve as a discovery master in complex commercial litigation and appointed him as a mediator in sharply disputed civil litigation.

Mr. Dinan has served as a mediator or arbitrator in hundreds of cases, beginning in 1993. In this role he has helped resolve personal injury matters, insurance coverage cases, business disputes, construction disputes and intensely emotional matters involving alleged abuses of the priest-parishioner and therapist-patient relationships. He is on the Superior Court’s list of approved mediators.

He served from 1986-1989 on the Portland Zoning Board of Appeals, and is currently a member of the Maine State and Cumberland County Bar Associations. From 2001 through 2005 he served on the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association; from 2003 through 2005 he was the Chair of that association’s CLE Committee.

Mr. Dinan has been a member of the faculty of the Maine College of Trial Advocacy, an MTLA-sponsored three-day trial skills program, during its last three sessions, in 1997, 1999, and 2002. He has presented dozens of seminars on trial, litigation and insurance issues.

Mr. Dinan was born in Winchester, Massachusetts. He is a 1977 graduate of Harvard University (cum laude) and a 1982 graduate of the University of Maine Law School. He was admitted to practice in Maine and the U.S. District Court, District of Maine, in 1982. He is also admitted to the bar of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, First Circuit, and is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

On May 6, 2008, the Law Court upheld the Superior Court’s September 13, 2007 decision in Bean v. State Farm.
ML attorney Ken Pierce obtained a defense verdict on December 13, 2007 in a suit arising out of a June, 2005 automobile accident in Waterboro, Maine.
